Iron Man 2

"Sir, I'm gonna have to ask you to exit the donut display"
                                                                                         -Nick Fury

While not one of the favorable films in the MCU, or memorable, Iron Man 2 surprisingly brings more to the table than you would think. In fact, while aspects of this movie is fun, I believe this is more of a world building film than fluffy times before the big boys show up.

Once again we have great actors with amazing chemistry, Robert Downey Jr. takes on a more serious Tony who hides behind his wit. We learn that the suit is killing him the more he uses it, and so he decides to go out big thinking there is nothing preventing his death (although we all know that is BS since he was in the Avengers and had Iron Man 3...)

This film really explores Tony's past, while also gathering the basis, for what I assume, to Captain America: Civil War (This is just my speculation, by no means is this confirmed by the studio or anyone working on the film in any way). The basis is that the government has taken an interest in Tony's suit, taking him to court and trying to "legally" acquire it. This gives the universe a tiny nudge in saying that regular people do not like these "vigilantes" and the government would like to control them.

Another big piece of the MCU introduced into this movie is Black Widow. Used as an under cover spy working for Tony, she is revealed to be a badass and future female favorite of the MCU. Although she only get's that cred because Black Widow and Pepper Potts are the only women who actually have a reason to be in the films.

Speaking of Pepper, her character is drastically improved upon in this installment. She is assigned more control over Tony's company (CEO!) and by the end her "would they, wouldn't they" relationship with Tony is finally defined with both having feelings for each other and becoming an item. This film also showcases why Pepper Potts is such a strong female character. She takes charge, she stands up for herself, she isn't hopelessly puppy dog in love. In a nut shell, she has great character development since Iron Man.

The story itself is alright. I hear some people say that it is good, while others say nothing but negative comments. I will admit that the first half of the film really feels like it's just set up, which technically it is, but once it gets into the second half of the movie I really enjoyed it.

So, Iron Man 2 brought you Pepper x Tony, Thor hint (agent Coulson goes to Thor's landing place), Black Widow, War Machine, Tony not the smartest guy around, the government intervening, and a possible hint towards what starts civil war? Yeah, this film has a lot going for it than people realize.

Oh, and Justin Hammer is the biggest douche in all of cinema...

While not the best Marvel film, Iron Man 2 has a lot to offer to the universe than the story. Regardless of what people think, this film made important strides in the overall universe. If you have watched this, and you are one of those people who bash it and say it's worhtless, take another watch at it. This film is good, not perfect.
