The Incredible Hulk

"Me in a metal tube, deep underground with hundreds of people in the most aggressive city in the world?"
             -Bruce Banner

One of the most underrated movie in the MCU is The Incredible Hulk. I don't know why, but whenever someone is talking about the Avengers and they say that they loved the hulk because it was Mark Ruffalo and he was super funny with loki....and then you hear later that they are just bashing on The Incredible Hulk? This movie is not bad, it's not perfect by no means, but it is a very good, and importantly, FUN movie.

I have so many favorite parts in this movie, but what they do really well is showing Banner's origin in the first five minutes and then alluding to it for the rest of the movie, and not showing the hulk right away. Basically, this film used a great format that usually comes with monster movies, and in a way this is a monster movie, and that is once the beast is unleashed we don't see him until the epic reveal. We get glimpses and shadows when the hulk first appears, it's not until the climax of the fight scene that we get the full appearance of him.

Edward Norton was just a great casting, he embodied the smart mind, yet weak stature of doctor Banner. All the other actors and actresses were great too and you really only saw the characters and not the actors behind the characters.

On a technical level I'm sure there are multiple reasons why The Incredible Hulk isn't good, but the one aspect of this movie that I just rolled my eyes at was the love story line. I liked the actress who played Betty, but when we first meet her she brings a date to the diner and when she catches Banner she completely abondons her date like a week old sandwich and is like all puppy dog-follow you to the ends of the earth-head over heels in love with this guy and that's really all her character is. That is the only thing I really didn't like about this movie.

When Banner transforms, one of the things you hear that you don't in the Avengers (sadly) is his bones crunching and breaking as he undergoes the green. That's something I would love to have back in the films, it shows how tortuous and what a curse it is to being a hulk, whereas Mark Ruffalo is like "Im always angry" in the most non-angry face imaginable...

But enough of Ruffalo, I'll get to him in another post, time to talk about the action. The best parts of this movie is the action. The action is so well choreographed that it's a spectacle and I'm in awe every time I watch it. You can tell that there was a lot of thought put into the fighting and what the hulk could use around him, showcasing that he's not just a mindless beast. Then, that last battle between Hulk and Abomination, man what a fight. I've never seen a fight that testosterone heavy, and adrenaline pumping in any Marvel movie except this.

Which brings me to Abomination. He was amazing! I really liked his human character, but once he transformed he really embraced the monster within. The best thing is that Abomination is still alive, and all these questions come to my head like "where is he being held?" "How is he being subdued?" and it really raises the question to why he isn't used again? They could throw him in an Avenger's movie, or maybe the opening action scene of another character's film, but sadly I don't think that we will see him anytime soon, if ever again.

Overall, Marvel really outdid themselves with this and put in stone the after credit scene. I wish that Marvel would go back to their roots like this and Iron Man, but that will never happen now. Anywho, The Incredible Hulk is a must watch if you're into the MCU and want to see more Hulk Smash!
