Batman vs. Robin

"I'd like to hear that call 'hello police, my son stole the batmobile.'"
-Robin (Damian Wayne)

Ever since the Flashpoint animated movie, the DC animated movies have all been one continuous universe that all semi-tie in together. And with that it's been a mixed bag for me. I would find some fun, while others seriously flawed. This is the first DCAUOM (DC Animated Universe Original Movies) that I've loved! Everything is top notch with this, and I believe if they released this in the theater it would have made a good amount of money. Now, for those who have no idea who Damian Wayne is (although the last name is a clear indication) I'd highly recommend you to watch Son of Batman, because not only do you learn about who Damian is, but his character arc is continued in this film.

This is directed by Jay Oliva, who I think is one of the best animated directors in a long time, and I think this may be his best film yet. Technically this is a PG-13 film, but holy shit does this get super dark. I cannot say how many times there is just kid bashing in this film. I'd put this as a hard PG-13 maybe even a light R.

The film starts off light as Bruce and Damian are talking about the "theft" of the batmobile, but then we are introduced to The Dollmaker which will send creepy vibes all down your body. Dollmaker is mostly just for the introduction, he's more like a throwaway character, because what this film really comes down to is The Court Of Owls story line from the New 52 Batman.

I never expected them to actually try to make a Court of Owls adaptation, but this is an actual Court of Owls adaptation, not exactly like the comic but nonetheless it takes so much from it that any fan will be giddy as they watch everything unfold. Oh, and for those fans of the comic- they have the maze scene!

Unlike other films in the DCAUOM, this one covers all the plot points and character arcs. After the credits roll it makes you feel like you watched a complete movie, and that's what I loved about it. But, there are many many other things to love about this: the music, fights, voice acting, animation. Everything about this film is amazing, everything is firing on all cylinders.

The voice acting is good, the same voice actors who were in Son of Batman return, and they added Kevin Conroy as the voice of Bruce's dad so that was amazing. The fight scenes are the best I've ever scene, the animation is so good and so smooth that it is unbelievable what they were able to do. We see Batman getting the shit kicked out of him and you see all this amazing action choreographed to the accompanying music that it will just make you want to fangasm.

If you haven't seen a DC animated film yet, or you have lost hope in the new DC animated film, then I highly highly recommend you see this. They do a very great job at adapting one of the best story lines in the new Batman comics (although every story line in Batman's New 52 has been amazing) that comic and non-comic fans will drool over.
